HISTORIC TUMWATER CHURCH CELEBRATING 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ITS BUILDING

The Tumwater United Methodist Church is having an Open House from 1-4 pm on
Saturday, November 3 rd to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its current building located off
Trosper at 1401 Lake Park Drive SW. There will be a brief rededication ceremony at 2 pm.
The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.
“It’s a very great event in the life of our church,” Reverend Sandra Ward stated. “Our
congregation was formed in 1858. The original building, the little white church built on the hill
overlooking the falls, was built in 1871 and still stands today on its original site on Second
Avenue,” Ward added.
When a larger church was needed, the current Lake Park Drive location was chosen. In
1968 the larger, current church was built. The original church bell was moved to the new
location and is still in use today as a call to worship and for other special occasions.
“This painting of our church was done in 1989 by long time member Ron Hanning. We
would love to have people stop by and help celebrate,” Rev. Ward stated.
