WHY SCIENCE SAYS YOU SHOULDN’T MAKE YOUR BED IN THE MORNING

    Matt Case - December 9th, 2025

Scientists may have just delivered the world’s most convenient excuse for skipping your morning bed-making ritual.

For years, we’ve been told a neatly tucked bed fuels better sleep and sharper productivity. But new research out of London suggests all that tight tucking may also trap something less appealing — the heat and sweat you left behind overnight, creating prime real estate for bacteria and dust mites.

Researchers aren’t giving anyone a free pass to live like a sleep-deprived raccoon. Instead, they say the fix is simple: before you channel your inner hotel housekeeper, peel back the blankets and let those sheets breathe. A little morning airflow goes a long way.

And for millions of reluctant bed-makers, that may be the best scientific news all week.
