HOUSTON, TX - NASA is currently accepting applications for new astronauts, inviting individuals aiming to follow in Neil Armstrong's footsteps to join their ranks. Candidates have until April 2 to apply for a position at the US space agency, which includes a note on the necessity of frequent travel.

Selected astronauts will undergo a rigorous two-year training and evaluation process, including meeting specific physical standards. These individuals may participate in NASA's Artemis program, aiming to return humans to the moon later this decade and laying the groundwork for eventual manned missions to Mars in the 2030s.

The Artemis program plans to land the first woman and the next man on the moon, utilizing the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket to venture beyond Earth's orbit. The role, based in Houston, Texas, offers an annual salary of $152,258.

While prior experience as an astronaut is not required, NASA's selection criteria are comprehensive. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with at least a master's degree in a STEM field, such as engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science, or mathematics. Alternatively, eligibility can be met with two years of progress toward a relevant PhD, a medical degree, or completion of a test pilot school program. Additionally, candidates must pass the NASA long-duration flight astronaut physical, which includes vision and blood pressure requirements.
