WASHINGTON D.C. — A Washington, D.C., resident, John Cheeks, has taken legal action against the Powerball lottery, claiming entitlement to $340 million in winnings after a mistake by lottery officials. Cheeks believed he had won the jackpot when he checked the numbers on the lottery's website, only to later learn the posted numbers were incorrect.

The error was corrected by officials, but not before Cheeks had seen the incorrect numbers and believed he had won. He is now suing for the amount he thought he had won, asserting that the mistake does not negate his right to the winnings.
