For many, enjoying a cold beer while watching sports is a cherished tradition, yet a new study suggests that fans of certain NFL teams might indulge more than others. According to research conducted by BacTrack, a maker of portable breathalyzers, Tennessee Titans supporters led the league in alcohol consumption during the 2023-2024 season.

The analysis, based on approximately 28,000 breathalyzer tests linked to smartphones and collected anonymously through the BacTrack app, aimed to gauge fans' blood-alcohol content (BAC) levels on game days. BacTrack recorded BAC levels from 6 a.m. on the day of the game until 6 a.m. the following day, discovering that fans of certain teams registered BAC levels at or above 0.08%—the threshold for legal impairment in many jurisdictions.

Tennessee Titans fans topped the list with an average BAC of 0.093% on game days. Conversely, fans of the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs were the most sober, with an average BAC of 0.051%.

The study's findings highlighted the top five teams with the highest average BAC levels among their fans:

    1. Tennessee Titans: 0.093%
    2. Pittsburgh Steelers: 0.088%
    3. Indianapolis Colts: 0.085%
    4. Atlanta Falcons: 0.085%
    5. New Orleans Saints: 0.080%

On the other end of the spectrum, the teams with the lowest average BAC levels were:

    1. Kansas City Chiefs: 0.051%
    2. Washington Commanders: 0.058%
    3. New York Giants: 0.058%
    4. Baltimore Ravens: 0.059%
    5. Los Angeles Chargers: 0.062%

This research sheds light on the drinking habits of NFL fans during game days, providing a unique glimpse into how team support and alcohol consumption may intersect.
