DOLLY PARTON ONCE PULLED A GUN ON A GUY IN NYC AFTER GETTING KICKED OUT OF HER HOTEL BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT SHE WAS A HOOKER
In a 2005 appearance on "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," Dolly Parton shared an unexpected anecdote that surprised even the talk show host. During the interview, O’Brien inquired about Parton's impressions of New York City, considering her upbringing as a "traditional country girl" hailing from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Parton expressed her appreciation for the "Big Apple" and proceeded to recount a memorable incident from her first visit to the city.
Reflecting on the late 1960s and early 1970s, a period when she was just beginning to establish herself in the world of country music, Parton and her friend Judy Lane embarked on their inaugural trip to New York City. Despite their limited financial means, the duo eagerly explored the city's streets.
Parton humorously reminisced, "We came up here and we didn’t have any money at that time, I was just beginning to make it. We checked in a hotel, and we’ve been friends since we were little, so we just got one room."
However, the hotel's management grew skeptical due to their appearance, leading to an amusing misunderstanding. Parton elaborated, "I looked cheaper then than I even do now, and Judy didn’t look any better. So we checked into this hotel and they thought we were hookers."
Upon returning to their room after exploring the city, Parton and her friend encountered a surprising scene. "We went out looking around in the city and we come back to our room and they had our luggage out in the hall and they had us locked out cause they thought we were turning tricks up there."
