    In a year that saw country music reaching new heights, 2023 was marked by an unprecedented achievement: four country songs ascended to the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot 100, a testament to the genre's growing appeal. Morgan Wallen's hit "Last Night" led the charge, dominating the number one spot for an impressive 16 non-consecutive weeks, a clear indication of its widespread popularity.

    Despite Wallen's chart success, Billboard's selection for the best country song of 2023 took a different turn. In a surprising twist, Luke Combs' cover of "Fast Car" clinched the top honor, an acknowledgment that may have come as unexpected to many given the stiff competition from other chart-topping hits.
