Join us for a Unique Painting + Native Culture Experience with
Tlingit Tribal Member & Formline Artist Bill Pfeifer, Jr!
You'll create your own traditional, or green, purple, & fuschia NW Coast Native Art frog on a beautiful red cedar plank. Xíxchs (frogs) were principal characters in many traditional stories that were (and still are) part of the oral history of Tlingit culture.
Enjoy some sips, have fun painting, and encounter the rich connections of an ancient art form, which depicts animals, supernatural beings, and figures from oral histories.
What to Expect:
-A hands-on chance to learn technique, paint, ask Bill questions, and honor a living tradition.
-No painting experience is required; all you need is the willingness to use your inner creativity and embrace the beauty of formline.
-This unique art-making session invites you to explore the visual language of the native peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America.
The Artist:
Wéidaaká Yóodóohaa (Bill Pfeifer, Jr) is a Native American Artist who belongs to the Tlingit tribe from Southeast Alaska, now based in Washington. His work, which he calls “Formline Evolved,” is a dynamic fusion of traditional Formline principles with a modern, graphic sensibility.
Taught the basics of Formline design by his father, also an artist, Wéidaaká Yóodóohaa’s training was further honed under the privilege of studying with renowned Tlingit master carver Nathan Jackson.
The Venue:
-The Stottle Tasting Room offers a beautiful selection of Wines for purchase along with non-alcoholic options
-A light menu of food items like Cheese Plates & Charcuterie along with snacks are available for purchase
